Truffle Treats – with Dates!

Who doesn’t love dates? What a fantastic sweet natural candy! Every Halloween, I used to ration my candy bars like they were gold—saving the Snickers for last because nothing beat that sweet-salty, chocolate-peanut magic. Years later, I still crave that same flavor, but not the crash or the processed ingredients that came with it.

These Truffle Treats bring back all that nostalgia, just reimagined the Plant-Based Southerner way:

  • Whole dates instead of nougat
  • Creamy peanut butter instead of caramel
  • And a walnut tucked inside for crunch.

Once they’re rolled in dark chocolate and sprinkled with crushed peanuts, you’d swear you just unwrapped childhood—only this time, it’s guilt-free, dairy-free, and made right in your kitchen.

They’re sweet enough for dessert but wholesome enough for an afternoon pick-me-up, and they look fancy enough to pass for gourmet truffles on any holiday table. Around here, we call that a win-win!

🥜Nutritional Snapshot

  • There are about 130 calories per truffle (about the same as a fun-sized Snickers) but ours carries 3 grams of protein and 2 grams of fiber and half the salt and fat.
  • Nutrient-for-nutrient, this Truffle Treat gives steady energy and satiety; the candy bar gives a quick spike and crash.

💰 Cost Comparison

  • Homemade: about $0.45 per truffle
  • Commercial vegan “Snickers-style” bar: around $2.00 per piece
  • Savings: ~75% cheaper, plus you control every ingredient.

🌟 Pro Tip

For a holiday version, drizzle with melted white cocoa butter and sprinkle with crushed peppermint. For summer, roll in shredded coconut or chopped almonds.

🌻Final Thoughts

These Truffle Treats are proof that the simplest ingredients can make the richest memories. Keep a batch in your freezer—you never know when a little chocolate nostalgia will come calling.

  1. Slice each date down one side and remove the pit if needed.

Notes

Variations: Dates are incredibly versatile. Roll in white cocoa butter and peppermint candies at Christmas or cinnamon and minced apples at Halloween.
